Position Overview
One World Direct (OWD) is seeking an Automation Technician with hands-on experience in microcontroller-based systems and Java to support and standardize automation across its 3PL distribution centers. This role is responsible for integrating and maintaining BoxWorks sortation systems, developing control logic, and aligning automation practices across three U.S.-based facilities.

The ideal candidate understands both the hardware and logic side of fulfillment automation and is comfortable deploying systems in live warehouse environments.

 Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain Java-based logic for BoxWorks microcontrollers used in sorting and routing systems.
  • Configure and support embedded automation systems including sensors, actuators, and motors.
  • Standardize sortation logic and device configurations across three distribution centers.
  • Troubleshoot real-time control issues—both software logic and hardware signals.
  • Document wiring layouts, controller settings, logic flow, and configuration processes.
  • Collaborate with operations and engineering teams to improve automation performance and reliability.
  • Provide field support during rollouts, upgrades, or escalations.
  • Coordinate with vendors or integrators as needed for firmware updates and hardware tuning.

Required Qualifications
  • 2+ years of experience with microcontroller-based systems in logistics or light industrial environments.
  • Proficiency in Java for building or maintaining hardware-integrated automation logic.
  • Familiarity with BoxWorks or similar sortation control systems.
  • Working knowledge of embedded control: I/O wiring, sensor integration, and motion control.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across hardware, firmware, and logic layers.
  • Ability to travel regularly and work independently in warehouse settings.
  • Commitment to documentation and repeatable system deployment.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience in 3PL, parcel sortation, or fulfillment automation environments.
  • Familiarity with communication protocols (UART, SPI, I2C, CAN).
  • Exposure to OT/IT integration between warehouse systems and backend platforms.
  • Background supporting multi-site operational tech rollouts or retrofits.
Travel & On-Site Expectations
  • 1st Quarter (Probationary Period):
    • Required on-site 3 days per week for immersion in physical systems, processes, and layout understanding.

  • Ongoing Schedule:
    • 1 day per week on-site, with flexibility depending on business needs.
    • Emergency or critical project travel may require full-week on-site presence.

  • Travel spans three U.S. distribution centers and is company-supported.

Flexible work from home options available.

Compensation: $83,000.00 per year
